The Gospel simply means the good news about the person of Christ, all about His life, His death and His resurrection. It is the only way for which the fallen man is restored back to God with the glory that he had in the beginning. This was made possible through Christ by dealing with the root cause of all of man’s problem–SIN! Rom 8:3-4 (MSG)
Jesus is the propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:2) and the gospel is the good news that we, who were once enemies of God, have been reconciled by the blood of Christ and adopted into the family of God (Romans 5:10; John 1:12).
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1). The gospel is the good news that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
This good news inspires faith and not fear (Rom 10:17). It empowers and enables us to die to “SELF” and live for Christ. It makes us to see the world through the lense of Jesus Christ, expressing his love to the world around us, even as we become his representatives on the earth.
No wonder Paul said “If I spread the Good News, I have nothing to brag about because I have an obligation to do this. How horrible it will be for me if I don’t spread the Good News! If I spread the Good News willingly, I’ll have a reward. But if I spread the Good News unwillingly, I’m only doing what I’ve been entrusted to do. So what is my reward? It is to spread the Good News free of charge. In that way I won’t use the rights that belong to those who spread the Good News.” (1 Cor 9:16-18)
There is only one Gospel and it is the Gospel of Christ. It is pathetic that the spirit of error has successfully adulterated this Gospel of Christ into the variants gospels that are being peddled in our churches today.
We have as many gospels as denominations. The range is from the outrageous ones such as the Gospel of Prosperity; Fire judgement on enemies; Humanism disguised in motivation and empowerment; to the very subtle and “spiritual” ones such as the gospels of Dominion , Faith or even the gospel of making Heaven.
The problem with all these variants is that they lack the POWER of God. Paul said “I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God unto salvation.” Power for what? Power to Make Sons. The transforming power to recreate man into Christ is only invested in the Gospel of Christ. Hence the Church is filled with men instead of Christ because of the variants Gospel we have believed.
The new creation is a brand new man -of the Last Adam Christ and not a renovated old man of the first Adam. Only the Gospel of Christ has such recreation power.
In summary the Gospel is the REVELATION of Jesus Christ and his finished works to restore humanity, redeeming them and discipling them to be conformed into His image thereby qualifying them to rule and reign with him in His kingdom both now and forever.
What kind of gospel did you receive?
Is it one given by men or one revealed by God’s word?
Is it the one that reveals Christ or is it revealing other things?
