Key Passage: 1 Sam 1, Matt 7:21-24
Introduction
All eyes closed, If you want to give your life to Christ life up your hand, can you take a bolder step and stand up? This is not for man, this is for God. All eyes still closed. Say after me, “Dear Lord, Jesus, I accept you today as my personal lord and savior, come into my heart, forgive my sins, ….”
You are now saved! For real? Just say a few words and you are saved? Do you know enough of the gravity of those words to believe? Did you count the cost? Was it clear to you that everything you were before now was at stake? Your relationships, your properties and indeed anything you hold dear?
This is how we have watered down the gospel and made a lot of people believe they are saved when indeed they are not. We have gotten people to confess Jesus as Lord without a clear understanding of what Lordship is all about. We have created millions of dangerously deceived converts who will challenge Jesus’ judgement, did we not do wonders in your name? Did we not recognize you as Lord? They call Jesus Lord, but they have no idea what that means, it’s just a cool word used In churches.
Jesus does not want you to accept him as your personal Lord and savior. He is Lord of all, he wants you to surrender and submit to his lordship. He doesn’t want you to mouth a sinners prayer, he wants you to truly repent and believe in his finished work. He doesn’t want you to mindlessly follow, he wants you to count the cost and see if this is what you really want to submit yourself to. Lordship is no child’s play.
Paradigm Shift!
It’s an insult on Lordship for obedience to be optional! Lordship is incompatible with disobedience. If Christ is truly LORD of your life, then discipleship is not an option. Lordship is absolute surrender to the will, agenda and mission of the Lord. Lordship requires taking ourselves out of the picture, completely renouncing our personal ambitions and agenda and totally embracing the will and pleasure of our master. Lordship is that place we get to when we realize, God, I don’t want anything anymore, I want to do your will, I want to want only what you want!
Jesus demanded for this! Hannah came to this realization. It is at the point where we become owners of nothing that we become stewards of everything. It is at the point where we want nothing that we are set for eternity. If he’s not LORD of all, He is not LORD at all. There is no half and half in Lordship. Is he your LORD? Or do you only confess him as LORD!
Lordship precedes Discipleship, Christ must be Lord of ALL, else He is not Lord at ALL!
Application
- 1 Samuel 1: When we align to Heavens needs, we open the room for Christ to be Lord
- 1 Samuel 1: 28 “Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” So they worshiped the Lord there.” Hannah gave her most prized possession without asking for a refund. When we relinquish what we can never own, we get access to God’s own. God gave us the gift of his own son, we owe him our all.
What will Jesus Do?
Jesus will do nothing except what he saw the father do. He had an heavenly invisible CCTV screen in which God was plain to him. We don’t need a CCTV screen, we have the WORD of God, Christ, the revelation of all scriptures, as we learn of him and model him, we can say like Him, what we do, is what we see Christ do.
