MODELLING CHRIST,
TRANSFORMING LIVES

Our God given role is to build global leaders. This requires converting everyday people with regular challenges into leaders who save the world by leading others to Christ.

The Truth about Love

Key Passage: 1 Corinthians 13, John 3:16, 1 John 3:16

Introduction

Love is one of the most used word today but it is amazing how use doesn’t translate to understanding. A google search for ‘Love’ gives over 8 Billion search results while a search for ‘God’ gives about 1.8 Billion results. This tells us men are searching for love more than they are searching for God, literally. However, what we miss is that God is Love and a yearning for Love at its core is a search for God.

Paradigm Shift

They say love is the feeling you feel when you feel the way you have never felt before about someone. This feeling drives us to give our time, finances and more to the object of our love. Like Romeo, this feeling leads us to die for our partner but the bible makes clear we can give all we have, move mountains and even die for another, yet in God’s book it won’t quality as LOVE.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttt!

Absolutely, God showed us what LOVE is in John 3:16 – “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

If our love doesn’t put the eternity of the loved in view, it is ultimately a waste. If the expression of our love takes care of the physical, emotional and financial need of people but leaves out their eternity, we haven’t loved, we have only helped. No wonder Love abides forever. Without love expressed this way, all spiritual gifts are but a waste of time, I speak but nothing, I am nothing and I gain nothing.

Applications

Paul helped us with how this love is applied daily. If my desire is for everyone I meet to ultimately be saved, then we will not give up, we won’t always be about me first, we will forget ourselves long enough to reach out to others, we will be patient, we will put up with anything, we won’t revel when others are in pain, we will trust God and we will keep going to the end. This is how love lives everyday.

What would Jesus do?

– Jesus will feed the hungry, heal the sick, raise the dead, but he won’t pass on every opportunity to point all to the Father.

– Jesus will love and care for all so much that he will die for them to be saved. He won’t place his interest above that of others

– Jesus won’t turn his eyes away from his family members, friends, colleagues, Neighbors etc who have not met Him.

Commitments and Prayers

Lord, I receive your grace to love like you loved me. Help me not to give up, help me not to be impatient, help me to do all in my capacity as you enable me to love truly and deeply, ensuring that the eternity of all around me is secured in you.
