Ask the average person and he or she tells you that heaven is a great place, and that they’ll love to be there. They speak about heaven in glowing terms, and believe it’s a place of rejoicing, singing, praising and being in God’s presence.
If you look deeply you see a very interesting disconnect. The things they say would take place in heaven that would make it a joyous place are not the things they are very excited about doing here currently. If you ask the average person if he or she would love to be taken to heaven today, their answer would be no! People want to go to heaven when they die, not now when they are alive. They want to go to heaven when they have no choice, not now when they can choose.
Our philosophy of Heaven cannot be correct like this. It’s either many acclaimed Christians would be bored to death in their definition of Heaven, or Heaven is not meant for the current acclaimed Christian. If I spoke to people who love and revere America about the prospects of travelling their in the next 24hrs, they would be overjoyed, why are Christians unable to take the same opportunity to head for Heaven?
Heaven is not a place we are only meant to go when we are dead. What Jesus came to do is open the heavens and connect heaven to earth. He is the ladder that Jacob saw, with angels ascending and descending. Heaven is real, and it’s possible to access the resources and the environment of Heaven here on earth and now! I am experiencing it, and you can too.
