We are now 13 days in on a very exciting journey. We embarked on this challenge to see Jesus, believe him, and have eternal life. This is the will of God. John 6:40: “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
The Bible
Jesus told the Jews in quite clear terms – reading the Bible will not give you eternal life. The Bible is all about Jesus, and reading the Bible should make you see Jesus. When you see Jesus and believe him, that’s when you have eternal life. John 5:39-40 says, “You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me. And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.”
When you read, you shouldn’t struggle to read the scriptures, but struggle to leave scriptures. God’s word should become your delight. Bible reading is not about any of the things that the world chases, rather, by reason of the word of God you will suffer persecution, the word of God in you will be tested, the end result is Christ in fuller stature in you.
