Key Passage; John 14:11-14 ,Matthew 6:5-15, 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
Many people think they are praying when they are not! Many people are confident about praying and teach people how to pray, they are ignorant of prayer. Many people have formulas and what to do for God to answer, it’s hogwash. Listen to what Jesus said himself.
“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense.”
What many people call prayer, Jesus calls nonsense!
Prayer is not a one sided monologue! Imagine what you will do if your son comes to you, rants and goes away. Prayer is not the pin code to “God the ATM”. God is a loving father, he knows the needs of His children way in advance. Prayer is not where we get what we want, prayer is where we work together with God to accomplish his will.
Paradigm Shift
God does not hear every prayer! He only hears what is in line with His will. Once the prayer you are praying is not authored by God or aligned with His will, it will not pass through.
Prayer is not about our WANTS, but about God’s will and pleasure. Wanting, wanting and wanting chokes away the love of God. Prayer is communion, it’s our direct line through which we reach God and God reaches us.
God is our Father and he seeks to communicate with us more that we desire to communicate with Him. Just as no earthly father will intend to starve his child of constant communication, so also God has us in as His children and desires to speak to us much more than we desire to speak to Him.
The scriptures makes clear that God our Father has a plan, from Genesis to Revelation God has what he is doing and He seeks sons that will participate with Him in what he is doing. John 14 makes clear that whatever we request along the lines of who He is and what He is doing, He will do. This makes clear to us that God is only committed to answering prayer that are in line with His will. The story of Hannah in 1Samuel 1 also makes this clear: God needed a man dedicated to Him, Hannah needed a son she was willing to dedicate to God.
In Matthew 6:5-15 Jesus further puts emphasis on and makes us see that prayer is a way we communicate with our father and teaches us to align ourselves with him asking for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven and then to pray for resources with which we will do the work that he has committed to us to do.
Application
I must understand that God is my Father and that the ultimate is to have a relationship with Him. If i have a relationship with the father, communicating with Him will not be a struggle.
I must realize that God desires to communicate with me more that i desire to communicate with him and so take out time always to listen to Him.
I must stay in constant connection with Heaven, never out of Gods presence. Praying without ceasing.
What will Jesus do?
Jesus maintained a constant communication with Heaven and never was out of sync with the father, He did nothing that was not instructed by the father neither did He fail to do all that the father instructed. Jesus prayed always for His disciples and ensured that He was in constant touch with the father about them and Jesus taught His disciples to pray.
Commitment and Prayer
Lord I commit to draw nearer to you, to be in constant touch with you, to pray always and not faint. I ask that self be put to death in me so that i can be absolutely yielded to you.
