Key Passage: Galatians 1, 2 John 1 and Colossians 1
Does it sound strange to your ears that there is only one gospel? Maybe you have not heard it at all or you have but turned away into different other gospels like the Galatians brethren.
Today, our congregations are littered with different kind of gospels; The gospel of giving and prosperity, gospel of legalism, gospel of once save forever saved etc. Beware! There are many people out there who want to pervert the ‘only one’ gospel – The Gospel of Christ
The book of Colossians helps to articulate it all together into one whole—The preeminence of Christ. For it pleases God the Father that in Christ all fullness should dwell. He is the visible and the express image of God the Father. To preach something else outside Him is to be an anti-christ.
Paul had no apology for anyone who was trying to pervert the gospel of Christ by preaching a different gospel. Human or Angel, let him be accursed. Jesus also warned the disciples telling them to beware of false teachers who are wolves in sheep’s clothing for if possible even the elect will be deceived with signs and wonders.
Do you want to know what the bible instructs?
Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. 2 John 1:9-11
- Am I being deceived by carrying around a different gospel?
- Am I wary of false teachers and strange teachings outside the gospel?
- We must abide in the doctrine of Christ so as to demonstrate that we belong to Him.
What would Jesus do?
Jesus will warn His disciples to beware and also will show them signs to watch out for. I must do the same following in His steps.
Commitments and Prayers
Dear Lord, help my heart not to turn away from this one Gospel even as I learn of Christ daily.
